Time passes quickly. Life happens. I could retire, but I am having too much fun teaching. There are moments, however.

I suppose the best advice I could give at this point is to keep learning, thinking, growing, planning, but to remember that life is now, not at some future point when you have achieved all of your goals. Bob Dylan has a song called "When I Paint My Masterpiece," that relates all sorts of adventures and mishaps, but the refrain always comes back to, "Someday, everything's gonna be different--When I paint my masterpiece." But everything won't be different, and life is always ongoing until it ends. The adventures and mishaps are the life.

Macbeth says, of course,

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

But one must consider the source. Macbeth is not exactly a wise man. I think he is wrong. But I am sure it will be a life-long quest.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14220940014661440823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4509984623221522253.post-78879994823790734992012-09-17T10:25:38.541+09:002012-09-17T10:25:38.541+09:00Wow, I hadn't visited here for quite a while b...Wow, I hadn't visited here for quite a while because you weren't posting, and now there is a lot of new stuff!

I have just become a grandfather. I don't think anyone knows what it is like to have kids until you have them, and then the kids teach you how to take care of them. It's on the job learning. My son and his wife are being very picky about everything--organic diapers, organic cotton clothes with no California mandated fire-retardant chemicals--eventually they will figure out that babies have to live in the world like the rest of us.

It is easy to spend your whole life looking for meaning and waiting for happiness. The simplest way is probably to just follow some sort of creed, which most of the major religions are happy to supply. Probably that's not too bad. It takes care of all the big questions and gives you time to focus on living. Usually the plan is put together by amazingly smart and insightful people. It sounds like that is difficult for you, however. I didn't have much success with it either.

I think you are asking really good questions, but they are pretty unanswerable in words. Using your talents to bring joy and beauty to others is good. Doctors need music too, you know. Anyway, I'm glad you are posting again. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
